Yeah, this is not a cheap device. But, neither is it cheaply constructed. I've owned a range of similarly sized and very similar in appearance drives over the years for my Macs. You know the others - various FireWire spigots, USB-2, etc. This is a much improved version of most of those in that the fan is variable in speed and they support the fast USB-3 interface which is pretty ubiquitous. The fan alone is the win as it is not terribly audible unless I am really exercising the drive, which is when I desire the fan to be at max. Else, it idles at a low purr. I find the form factor to be ideal for my limited desk space, and as I stacked a pair (the other being 4TB running RAID 0) their footprint is minimal. These drive enclosures are bricks. They have an easily configured front panel, effective variable fan speed, and lockable slide in drive bays. They have temperature displays and health checks, etc. These connect to my 2011 MacBook Pro via a CalDigit Thunderbolt 2 hub, so they are extremely fast. I have also used them directly connected to a newer MacBook Pro which has USB-3 ports, and they are blazing fast as well.In essence, nothing terribly new to report. These do exactly as advertised and are very well made.
Had some difficulty setting it up for Raid-1. Instructions weren't very clear, but TechSupport answered my call quickly with a real English-speaking person that new his stuff, and I was all set up very quickly. The user manual was useless, and has out-of-date references to email support for system status which is no longer supported. I've been using it for a few months now and have had no problems. Read/write speed is great.
