First off, i was wary of the number of review stars on this drive since A) it's a seagate which seems to get a bad rap as of late, and B) most of the 5-star reviews are vine voice reviews of free products. Over the last year or so i've come to the conclusion that these elite reviewers would rather keep their free stuff coming than provide honest reviews... but who am I to judge... i'd probably do the same.Rant aside, this drive is fast as hell. I was surprised how quickly it comes out of sleep mode (~ 2 seconds vs the 10-15 it takes my old(er) WD 3.0TB drive). I ran a long SMART check that came back clean and i've copied about a TB of stuff over to it. Zero complaints so far... but as others have said, we'll see how it fares in the long-term. If I needed another 5TB right now, I wouldn't hesitate on buying another one of these.Amazon packing was a little sketchy... the air bags stopped the HD from moving horizontally in the box, but not vertically. Other than that, i'm happy with this purchase.(Update 06/29/2016)Drive is used daily and still comes back clean with long SMART tests. Still very satisfied with this drive.
I bought this hard drive in February when I read that a soon to be released update for the PS4/PS4 PRO would support external hard drives to install games and applications. Then i waited... well that day is today. PS4 received update, I installed this drive, had PS4 format drive (simply follow the prompts) and there you go. You then have a much needed expansion for your games for the PS4. Yes I had already switched to larger internal hard drive quite some time ago. I installed several games to this hard drive today and there was NO issues. No lag, no slowdown, even when in game movies played... ran great.***** IMPORTANT INFO *****You HAVE to have the PS 4.50 update in order to use this drive. If you do not have the 4.50 update installed on your PS4 then this drive nor any other drive will work to install GAMES. You can still use an external hard drive for photos and music before the 4.50 update. Again you HAVE to have the PS 4.50 update to install games to this drive.* EDIT *One more thing I just found out. If you put your PS4 into rest mode and you leave your USB ports on (for charging headsets or controllers) this hard drive will NOT go into sleep mode. The blue light on the drive will remain on and heads will continue to spin. This will lead to early end of life. If you just unplug the USB from the PS4 the drive will turn off even while power is plugged in. If you don't place your PS4 in rest mode nor leave the ports powered while in rest mode then this is not an issue.
Well it worked fine for a while and then it gave out with no notice at all. I saw other reviewers on here say the same thing happen to them and i was hoping it didn't happen to me. Just to be clear it worked fine for the first year no problems at all and i never moved it, it was stationary with ample air flow and nothing around it. The fact that its only 1 year warranty and it breaks a little after the warranty is up is sad. I contacted seagate and all they did was have me run test with their program and send them screenshots showing the test failed and then told me its nothing they can do cause its out of warranty. I got this cause of the price but i wished i had paid more and got the Western Digital instead, i have a 2tb wd external that has been knocked around a lot and its still going.. I wont waste my money on another seagate again. I can understand if it was because it fell or i was careless but it was never moved and then went bad
